As Jesus brings the Sermon on the Mount to a close, He ends with a series of powerful warnings—not about external enemies, but about internal self-deception.
In this final section, we’re asked to examine whether our foundation of faith is real or false. Jesus exposes two great dangers:
- Saying “Lord, Lord” while refusing to actually do God’s will (vv. 21–23), and
- Hearing Jesus’ words but not putting them into practice (vv. 24–27).
Many people assume that calling Jesus “Lord” or doing good religious works is enough. But Jesus says the only ones who will enter the kingdom are those who do the will of the Father.
Through the parable of the two builders, He shows us the long-term difference between hearing and doing—between building on sand and building on rock.
This lesson is a personal test of our obedience, our discipleship, and our relationship with Jesus. Are we truly known by Him? And are we building on His Word?
